On Monday U.S. stock futures were steady, with the S&P 500 less than 1% away from its record close of 3,386.15 on February 19. The index traded above that level on Wednesday and Thursday, but failed to close at a record.

S&P 500, Dow JONES grind higher with stimulus in focus
On Tuesday the S&P 500 and Dow edged higher as investors held out for more U.S. government stimulus, but an escalation in Sino-U.S. tensions over TikTok and disappointing quarterly earnings from Ralph Lauren and AIG capped gains.
